Greetings General Conference Delegates! As a longtime United Methodist currently at Christ United Methodist Church in Salt Lake City, Utah in the Rocky Mountain Conference for the past 18 years, I am asking you to please vote for selective divestment from companies that benefit from the Israeli occupation of Palestine. As was the case with ending South African apartheid, divestment will be a powerful nonviolent means to help end the ongoing injustice perpetrated by Israel against the Palestinians. Please do not fear the false accusations of anti-Semitism which are sure to follow, but take heart in knowing that Jewish Voice for Peace is actually facilitating me writing you today. Only by ending the occupation can we have a hope for peace with justice in Israel/Palestine. With the love of Christ, David E Robinson Salt Lake City, UT

Dear Sisters & Brothers,
Here is a photo of me, drumming for peace the day after Thanksgiving (No Shopping for War Day) in San Francisco, together with Bay Area Women in Black.
Please vote for selective divestment from companies that benefit from the occupation. It is the most powerful, nonviolent way we, as Americans, have to pressure the Israeli government to end its occupation. Only through ending the occupation will we have a chance for a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

Israeli occupation has lasted for over 40 years with no serious opposition from the US. It is time to mobilize popular support in this country against this occupation which is the primary obstacle to peace in the Middle East. Selective disinvestment from companies that profit from the occupation sends a clear message both to Israel and to our representatives that we will no longer put up with this continuing oppression of the Palestinian people.

Please vote for selective divestment from companies that benefit form the occupation. It is a powerful, nonviolent way those of us in the United States have to pressure the Israeli government to end its occupation. The occupation is illegal and immoral and a major obstacle to peace. Only through ending it will we have a chance for a lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians. Paul Kivel, educator, activist, and writer–another Jew against the Occupation

My dear delegates and fellow spiritual beings —
It is SO VERY IMPORTANT to put Spirit first in the Middle East, to focus on longterm peace and the fairness from which peace can emerge and grow. It is so courageous—and yet also the minimum and essential—of your church to be taking up these issues. American historians know that EVERY major wave of social and ethical progress in our country began with the involvement of our churches. It is so once again now. Thank you so much!
In peace, Michael W. Hathaway

As a Jewish American, I strongly support selective divestment from companies benefiting from the occupation. It is not anti-semitic to criticize the Israeli government. There will not be any peace in the region until Israel ends its illegal and immoral occupation.

I just returned from sixteen days in Occupied Palestine. Over and over, I saw the painful oppression of the Palestinian people. I lived in Southern Africa in the late 1970’s and witnessed the worst of that nation’s apartheid — what the Israelis are doing to the Palestinians is as bad if not even worse. It is truly a form of ethnic cleansing. And I saw the ruins of house after house destroyed by the Israeli army using equipment made by an American company. I urge you to do the right thing — vote for divestment.
